Google Glass developers: We're still flying half-blind

Ever since developers got their hands on Google Glass earlier this year, software coders have clamored for greater access to the programming internals of the controversial headset. Google accommodated them this week -- albeit to the sound of muted applause.

To be sure, Google's Glass Development Kit (GDK) does fill in a key puzzle piece that had been missing from Google Glass. Yet many developers are worried. They say that in the absence of more leadership or more access from Google, they're being asked to figure out the final picture on their own -- knowing that it might change by the time Glass gets mass produced.
The Glass Development Kit preview released by Google opens up many of the options that had been absent from the developer's toolbox. Previously, developers had only been able to code for Glass' limited Mirror API.

Anambra Poll: INEC refuses to declare Obiano winner

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it will hold supplementary governorship elections in some local councils of Anambra State, Saharareporters reports.

The commission announced that the governorship candidate of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Willie Obiano, won in 16 out of 21 local governments, but refused to declare him the winner of the election.

It was gathered that Obiano won in Aguata, Ayamelum, Anambra East, Anambra West, Anaocha, Awka North, Awka South, Ekwusigo, Ihiala, Njikoka, Nnewi South, Ogbaru, Onitsha North, Onitsha South, Orumba North and Orumba South.

Meanwhile, the trio of Chris Ngige of APC, Tony Nwoye of PDP and Dr Ifeanyi Ubah of LP have jointly called for the cancellation of the November 16 governorship election in Anambra.

ASUU dissociates self from planned ESUT resumption

Here at Enugu  - The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has dissociated itself from the planned resumption of academic activities at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) on November 18.

A statement from the Chairman of ASUU-ESUT, Prof. Gab Agu, in Enugu on Sunday said the union's attention was drawn to the announcement by authorities that students would resume academic activities on Monday.

“The academic staff of ESUT dissociates itself from the above announcement.”

 “While ASUU-ESUT mourns the demise of Prof. Festus Iyayi, a former President of ASUU, it awaits the directive of the NEC on the ongoing strike,” it said.

Meanwhile, a condolence register has been opened for the late Iyayi at the ASUU secretariat at the Agbani campus of the school.

Agu described the death as a big loss to the union, the academia and the country in general.

The ASUU-ESUT boss prayed God to grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss.

Army destroys Boko Haram operational vehicles

Maiduguri - The Nigerian Army on Thursday said it had destroyed two suspected operational vehicles of the Boko Haram sect in the ongoing operations in Maiduguri.

The spokesman of the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri, Lt.-Col. Mohammed Dole, announced this in a statement.

Dole said that the destruction was to clear the insurgents terrorising motorists on high ways in Borno.

"We have been able to identify camps used by the terrorists in planning attacks against motorists and innocent villagers in Kaga Local Government Area of the state.

"Troops of the division, supported by the Nigerian Air Force, have been able to destroy these camps since we began the operations this week,'' Dole said.

He said three surveillance motorcycles believed to be used by the sect in planning attacks had also been recovered.

"They mostly used the motorcycles in spying to plan for attacks on innocent people.

"The General Officer Commanding the division (GOC), Maj.-Gen. Obidah Ethan, is happy with the cooperation of the public towards supplying vital information on the movement of the terrorists.

"I therefore wish to express our gratitude to the public for the support and cooperation extended to us so far.

"We have been able to dislodge the terrorists from their camps which have been their hiding places.

"They are now in disarray, trying to save their lives instead of planning attacks on innocent persons,'' Dole said.

He said the division had created patrol teams on major high ways in the state to prevent isolated attacks on motorists.

ASUU strike: Union may
call it off on Thursday.

The Academic Staff Union    of Universities, ASUU, may
call off its over four-
months’ strike on
Thursday, DailyPost has
gathered.
It has been revealed that
the Union’s plan is to
suspend the strike after
the National Executive
Committee of the body
meets on Wednesday
night to deliberate over
the outcome of the
congresses held in over 50
universities across the
country on the new offer
extended to ASUU by the
Federal Government.

The Union leadership had after its meeting with the
Federal Government
delegation last week
promised to take
President Jonathan’s
message to all members
and resolve on whether to
call off the strike or not.

The ASUU leadership had since then briefed the
zonal coordinators on the
offer, and consequently
directed the local branches
to organise congress
meetings between Friday
last week and Tuesday
(tomorrow) to deliberate
on the new offer and
make their final position
known this week.

However, information gathered from the
different Universities after
their various congresses
showed that the lecturers
are now willing to call of
the strike, even though
they are unsure of
government’s
commitment to abide by
the terms of the new
agreement. Some of the
lecturers that spoke with
DailyPost have disclosed
that the strike may be
suspended this Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Ibadan Zonal Coordinator of ASUU,
Dr. Nasir Adesola, has
confirmed that the NEC
meeting has been
scheduled to hold on
Wednesday. However, he
did not disclose whether
the strike would be called
off after the meeting or
not.

“Yes, the NEC will hold on Wednesday evening, but
ASUU has a process which
we are going to follow.
NEC reserves the right to
call off the strike after due
consultation with
members and this is why
congresses are being
called in all the chapters of
the union. Please, wait till
after the congress,” He has
disclosed.

Sources have revealed to DailyPost that most of the
lecturers have argued that
the strike be called off,
having seen the
President’s commitment.
They have said that the
new agreement has been
made public with the
involvement of President
Jonathan, hence the need
to call off the strike. They
have argued that such an
agreement cannot be
twisted even at the long
