WOMEN'S HEALTH – 9 Factors That Affect The Health Of The v**ina!!!

images (25)Vaginal health is an important part of a woman’s overall health. Vaginal problems can affect your fertility, desire for s*x and ability to reach climax. Ongoing vaginal health issues can also affect other areas of your life, causing stress or relationship problems and impacting your self-confidence.
What affects vaginal health?
The v**ina is a closed muscular canal that extends from the vulva — the outside of the female private part area — to the neck of the uterus (cervix). Various factors can affect your v**ina, some modifiable and some not. They include -
1. Unprotected s*x. You might contract a sexually transmitted infection if you have unprotected s*x.
2. Aggressive s*x or pelvic fracture. Forceful s*x or an injury to the pelvic area can result in vaginal trauma.
3. Certain health conditions. Diabetes and Sjogren’s syndrome — an autoimmune disorder — can cause vaginal dryness.
4. Medications and feminine-hygiene products. Prolonged use of antibiotics increases the risk of a vaginal yeast infection. Certain antihistamines can cause vaginal dryness. Superabsorbent tampons can lead to toxic shock syndrome — a rare, life-threatening complication of a bacterial infection.
5. Birth control products. Spermicide and NuvaRing (vaginal ring) can cause vaginal irritation. Using a diaphragm or contraceptive sponge might pose a risk of toxic shock syndrome.
6. Pregnancy and childbirth. If you become pregnant, you’ll stop menstruating until after your baby is born. During pregnancy, vaginal discharge often increases. Vaginal tears are relatively common during childbirth. In some cases, an episiotomy — an incision made in the tissue between the vaginal opening and anus during childbirth — is needed. A vaginal delivery can also decrease muscle tone in the v**ina.
7. Psychological issues. Anxiety and depression can contribute to a low level of arousal and resulting discomfort or pain during s*x. Trauma — such as s*xual abuse or an initial painful s*xual experience — also can lead to pain associated with s*x.
8. Getting older. The v**ina loses elasticity after menopause — the end of menstruation and fertility.
9. Hormone levels. Changes in your hormone levels can affect your v**ina. For example, estrogen production declines after menopause, after childbirth and during chest-feeding. Loss of estrogen can cause the vaginal lining to thin (vaginal atrophy) — making s*x painful.

Scoring Onslaught Does In Defending Champions

SALVADOR, Brazil — Sitting on the bench, worrying that history might be repeated at his team’s expense, Dirk Kuyt, the Dutch reserve forward, had a perfect view of a goal that energized a nation and a tournament with its daring and flair.
The Netherlands was losing at the time, 1-0, the identical score of its loss to Spain at the 2010 World Cup final in Johannesburg. But four years and 44 minutes later, Robin van Persie took a step inside the 18-yard box at the glistening new Arena Fonte Nova, and went airborne to redirect a searching 40-yard pass from Daley Blind with stunning agility.
Iker Casillas, the Spanish goalkeeper who had shut out the Dutch over 120 minutes four years before, was coming out at him, and van Persie knew that his best chance to score was not to head the ball down, as players are often taught, but to give it some lift, allowing it to float over the head of a stunned Casillas and into the back of the net.
Just moments before, Spain missed an opportunity to go up by two goals. But with a minute to spare before halftime, van Persie’s gem, the first of two goals by him, gave the Netherlands a jolt that they rode to a shocking 5-1 victory over Spain, the staggered defending champions.
Photo
“In his life, he has done amazing things,” Kuyt said of van Persie. “But to score this goal for his country was very special. It was an amazing pass and an even better finish. It’s a great start to the tournament, two goals against the world champion. It is amazing for him and it is amazing for the team. Hopefully, this is the start of a great tournament.”
It was a result as surprising as it was emphatic. Few could have predicted such a lopsided win for the 2010 runners-up, not even the thousands of orange-wearing fans of the Netherlands who roared in delight with each goal on this wet and steamy evening.
Certainly, the Dutch would have preferred this result to come four years ago in South Africa, when it would have meant a world championship. For now, they will be satisfied by taking a huge advantage in Group B, where finishing at the top could mean avoiding Brazil in the first round of the knockout stage.
For Spain, which was ragged and confused, especially on defense, the loss will reinforce speculation about the demise of its record-setting dominance in international play, a supremacy built with a World Cup sandwiched between two European championships.
But on Friday, the Spaniards played like a third-tier soccer nation, making pitiful mistakes at the back as the Dutch ran roughshod. In addition to van Persie’s two goals, Arjen Robben, the Netherlands’ fiendish dribbling marksman, scored two and Stefan de Vrij one.
“I don’t have words to explain it,” Spain’s coach, Vicente Del Bosque, said. “We’ve never been a very defensive team, but we were very weak. We didn’t recognize the ability of van Persie and Robben. We didn’t react properly. They played euphoric, and they hammered us.”
The four-goal margin of defeat was the largest for a defending champion, and Spain had not conceded five goals since 1963 when they lost to Scotland, 6-2. The only other time they let in at least five goals in the World Cup was in Brazil in 1950 when they lost to the hosts, 6-1.
Diego Costa, the Brazilian-born center forward, started for Spain and heard loud boos and crude chants for his decision to spurn Brazil and play for Spain. He was tripped in the box in the 27th minute, and Spain took a lead when Xabi Alonso converted the penalty.
But then Blind and van Persie linked up for the goal of the tournament so far. Blind, the Ajax defender, also made the long precision pass to Robben in the 53rd minute that gave the Netherlands the lead. He sent a long ball from the left flank to Robben, whose brilliant first touch, and masterful second touch, sent two Spanish defenders, including Gerard Piqué, and Casillas the wrong way, allowing Robben to drill the ball into the back of the net with his thunderous left foot.
For many Dutch fans, the goal, especially the way Robben collected the long ball with one guileful touch, was reminiscent of Dennis Bergkamp’s brilliant goal for the Netherlands in the 1998 World Cup.
“It is very sad,” Piqué said, “but now we have to regroup and prepare for the next game.”
In the 65th minute, de Vrij headed downward off a free kick to give the Netherlands a 3-1 advantage, and seven minutes later Casillas fumbled a back pass. Van Persie pounced on the mistake and slotted home his 10th goal in his last nine appearances for the Netherlands.
In the 80th minute, Robben scored again, and the Dutch bench, including Kuyt, ran out to greet him, throwing water bottles in the air in celebration.
“It was an amazing first match,” Kuyt said. “There was never an opening match where the world champion lost, 5-1. It was an incredible performance, but it’s the first match.”

Spain vs. Chile: Simulating Vital Group B World Cup Match Using FIFA 14

Spain vs. Chile: Simulating Vital Group B World Cup Match Using FIFA 14Spain currently sit bottom of Group B after receiving a sound thrashing during their opening World Cup match. Vicente del Bosque's side couldn't handle a rampant Netherlands team who inflicted a 5-1 revenge four years after Spain beat them in the South Africa final.

Things aren't scheduled to get any easier. Spain now face a Chile side who underwhelmed against Australia but managed to grab the win. Should the South Americans beat their Spanish rivals, the world champions will be heading home.
It is, as they say, the squeakiest of bum times for the 2010 victors. We aimed to get ahead of the curve with yet another FIFA 14 simulation, a result-producing mechanism that is only beaten in effectiveness by an Octopus who once lived in Germany.

Abacha's Loot: Nigeria To Get N37bn Back After 14 Years Of Struggle

A small European country of Liechtenstein has agreed to return over N37bn in equivalent (€167m / $227m) stolen by the late military rule General Sani Abacha, Financial Times reports.
FORMER PRESIDENT: GEN ABUBAKAR ABACHA

This decision ends Nigeria’s longest running battle to recover money that the late military dictator laundered through European banks.
The saga started in 2000, when Nigeria first requested assistance of the tiny (population is about 37,000 people), but incredibly rich county (GDP per capita is 2nd in the world) in recovering the assets transferred out of the country by Gen. Abacha.
But the recovery process has not been easy. Companies linked to Abacha’s family put lots of legal obstacles. Liechtenstein’s constitutional court dismissed a final appeal over the return of the funds in March 2013, which infuriated the Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who accused Liechtenstein of “aiding and abetting corruption”.
However, an official statement by Liechtenstein’s government dated June 17, 2014, Tuesday, read:
“In May 2014, the complaint pending in Strasbourg was withdrawn by the four Abacha companies, clearing the path for repatriation of the assets once and for all.”
Criminal investigations and subsequent forfeiture proceedings established that the Lichtenstein funds originated from bribes paid by Germany’s Ferrostaal AG to companies whose ultimate beneficiary was Abacha. They related to a grossly inflated contract for the construction of an aluminium smelter.
So far, Nigeria has recovered $1.3bn, the largest tranche of which – $500m – came from Switzerland in 2005. A further $1.1bn – in France, the UK, Luxembourg and the Channel Island of Jersey – is still tied up in legal proceedings.
In the beginning of March 2014 the stolen by the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha and his accomplices.
In a surprising development, the government , the late dictator’s eldest son, who was accused of receiving N100bn ($600m) of the late dictator’s money.

The arrest of about 486 people from the North in Abia state. READ MORE: www.jerrywealth.blogspot.com

A renowned socio-political organization from Northern Nigeria, Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), strongly condemned all the attempts to tag the people from northern part of the country as Boko Haram members, sponsors. The ACF also emphasized on the danger of detaining people based just on their origin, faith or appearance.
The position of the group was declared by the National Publicity Secretary of the organization, Muhammad Ibrahim.
In his electronic message, forwarded to SaharaReporters, the ACF expressed deep concern over state.

The ACF noted that these people have done nothing wrong, and they were just travelling in search for better life, hoping to earn money by legitimate means. However, the state government in cooperation with the Federal Government prevented them from achieving this goal.
The organization also lamented that the men have been allegedly subjected to ill treatment and hardship in the hands of security agencies. This turn of event, if confirmed, negates the spirit of one Nigeria and violates peoples’ freedom of movement and association, as grated by the Constitution of the country.
The statement further noticed that arresting people “simply on account of their faith, origin and appearance” is unacceptable, because such a move would make law-abiding and innocent citizens suffer in the hands of security agencies. This also turns people of one country into foreigners in their fatherland.
At the same time the ACF noted that it supports operations which are targeting Boko Haram insurgents and their evil activities.
The organization urged the State Government of Abia and other relevant authorities to exercise caution on the alleged arrest and interrogations of Jigawa indigenes.
“Nigerians deserves adequate protection of their lives and property wherever they are from their Governments. Therefore, Governments should ensure peaceful coexistence among Nigerians in any part of the country irrespective of their faith and origin,” the statement concluded.
It would be recalled that 33 buses were stopped by military and security operatives in Abia State on June 15, 2014, Sunday. The DHQ insisted that the operation and the screening of about 486 passengers bear fruit, as among them.

BISHOP DAVID OYEDEPO REACT TO THE BOKO HARAM ONSLAUGHT ISSUE

The General Overseer, Living Faith Church Worldwide, a.k.a. Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedopo, has decried the incessant attack by the violent Islamic sect. According to the cleric, the onslaught of Boko Haram in Nigeria was beyond politics and the incessant attacks had taken a toll on Nigeria. PUNCH reports that Oyedepo made this remark during his visit to the Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, at the Government House in Owerri. His visit is coming on the heels of the discovery of two explosives at a branch of the Living Faith church in Owerri on Saturday by the Imo state police. Oyedepo expressed gratitude to the governor for the quick intervention made to avert the IEDs from exploding and causing major disaster. The cleric therefore called for government at all levels to join in the fight against terrorism to ensure a peaceful and united Nigeria, adding that prompt action by government at every level was needed to check the menace of terrorism plaguing the nation. He however, prayed for God to give Nigerian leaders the wisdom to tackle the insecurity challenges in the nation and also intervene in the fight against terrorism. In his response, Gov. Okorocha thanked Oyedepo for his visit and assured that government would not relent in its efforts to ensure the security of lives and property of residents in the state. Two deadly improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were discovered by the Imo state police Saturday night, June15 at the Living Faith church but they were detonated by the anti-bomb squad deployed to the church thereby averting an explosion that would have killed many. Recall that in May, Oyedepo had said that for Nigeria to wipe out Boko Haram, the country’s leadership needed to have character, courage and capacity, not just to identify the main causes of the problems but also to be able to deal with them. LIFESTYLE: 8 RELATIONSHIP SECRETES MEN WANTS ALL WOMEN TO KNOW.

There is no doubt that men and women differ greatly when it comes to love and relationships. But, just because men do not breakdown and complain frequently like many women do, does not mean that they are fine with everything that happens. Most of them either suffer in silence or get aggressive or even walk away from the relationship. Wouldn’t it be better if their point of view was comprehended better by women? Here, we have for you some real men talking about some things that they expect from their partners when it comes to relationships. These relationship “secrets” will definitely be helpful for women who want to have a healthy and more fulfilling relationship. 1. “I am not flawless. Accept it!” “I believe that no one is perfect and my wife should accept that I am not flawless. After all, I am a human being! At times, I may be a complete “mamma’s boy”, but still if I am able to make her laugh at least once, is that not enough for her to hold on to me? Also, I am not going to write poetry for her, and think about her every tick of the clock. But I am willing to give her a part of my life, won’t that do? She has to understand that I am not picture-perfect; but perfect just for her,” says Bali, a gym owner. 2. “I am as sensitive as you are” “I am always expected to tip-toe around her feelings even if I am not in the mood to. Just because we don’t ask for admiration doesn’t mean that we don’t enjoy it. Just because we are not wired like a woman, doesn’t mean that we don’t have emotions and feelings. Why can she vent out her frustration about my mother when we have an argument, but I can’t do the same? So, I am expected to be her vent hole and her punching bag, but I cannot expect the same from her? Men usually mask their emotions so that they don’t appear weak and vulnerable. I feel women should learn to value the feelings of men,” shares newly-married Rishabh Bansal, a journalist., 3. “You can give some positive responses at times!” Sameer Bhutani, a 25-year-old law graduate, complains, “If I tell my girlfriend ‘You are pretty’, she snaps, “You are just making that up’. Once I told her, ‘Honey, you are getting slim’, and her reply was, ‘See properly and you will see that I am putting on weight’. I don’t understand why can’t she just accept my compliments without such self-depreciation? Instead of revelling in it, she leaves me in a dicey situation with her mean tones or loads of scorns. I try to make her feel beautiful, but then the way she keeps talking holds me back from giving compliments. We guys want to shower our girlfriends with praises and adorations but they act funny at times, which gets on our nerves!” 4. “I would love it if you request rather than demand” “None of us like to live with someone who is too controlling or demanding. Just because we love them, we keep giving in to their demands, even if they are unreasonable. But actually we do not appreciate this behaviour. Wives keep bossing around, thinking that their husbands are okay with this. In reality, we men keep ignoring it, but this only makes them more demanding! My wife constantly keeps demanding for things, and even blackmails me emotionally! She keeps making and breaking rules herself. I would really appreciate it if she could communicate her needs to me and ask for something nicely. Who would want to do something good for someone who is forcing them to do it?” asks circulation manager, Suhas Malhotra. 5. “It is a two-way street!” Fashion designer, Varun Kumar, who has been married for six years, says, “Girls expect a great deal of affection and time from their men, but they forget that love is a two way street. If a wife wants to enhance her husband’s ability to express love, even she should meet his emotional needs. Things like quality time, gifts, romantic talks, or acts of love are not meant for women alone! They look for everything in their “love paradise” but when it comes to returning the favour, they take us for granted. This is really hurtful. Once they realise this and are prepared to give exactly what they expect, it will really make a lot of difference.” 6. “There is no harm in being a good listener” “Trying to grasp what your partner is saying and keeping patience is the recipe for a successful marriage. Sometimes I notice that my wife is hardly listening to what I say and keeps nodding without paying any attention; this trait is really annoying. Plus, she is very impatient at times. She gets irritated with things as small as me coming home late or not taking my son to play. At times, there are situations that need patience and tolerance. For a healthy and happy relationship, she must be mindful in situations that demand endurance!” says Rahul Mudgal, a designer with a shopping portal. 7. “Please do not compare!” Web developer, Prateek Singhania, shares, “Many girls keep looking for their friend’s husband’s, or their father’s qualities in guys they meet. If they are truly interested in someone, why do they compare him with every Tom, man-hood and Harry? It is wrong to compare their partner with anyone and wish them to be someone else. I feel women should not say anything to their men that in any way hints towards comparison. This is likely to cause shame, anger or frustration in men and is enough to spoil a perfectly fine relationship. Taunts, sarcasm and making jokes on their activities while comparing them with someone else can make men feel weak.” 8. “Let bygones be bygones!” “Any man will feel disappointed if his wife carries the baggage of her past relationships. It certainly kills the chances of a “happily ever after”. The simple fact that a wife is still thinking of her past relationship is enough to wound the confidence and ego of a man. So, rather than brooding over her past, they can think about the future that is knocking on the door. Continuously bringing up past relationships can be harmful in the long run,” says Kamal Aggarwal, graphic designer. If only women knew all that went on in their partners’ mind, relationships would be so much better and happier! Source: B ollywoodshaadis.com

BE CAREFUL!!! STORY OF A YOUNG LADY WHO GOT IT WRONG....

After the freshers' party.... Jasmine is a young and beautiful girl starting her first year as an undergraduate at one of the best universities in the country. She is the average 'good girl' that never does a thing without informing her parents - until some weeks back when she attended a party without letting them know. She knew they wouldn't approve. Her roommate, Sandra Louis, was taking her turn cleaning up their shared toilet as Jasmine dressed up for her afternoon lectures. She picked up her bag, ready to leave.... Jasmine suddenly felt a "strange feeling" build up in her stomach. She ran to the toilet, pushed Sandra aside as her breakfast rushed up her throat. She emptied her stomach, messing up the toilet bowl. The retching left her roommate really scared. "Are you okay" she asked Jasmine. "I don't think so. I guess I must have eaten something not good for my stomach. I've been having a strange feverish feeling. I've also been feeling nauseous of late," Jasmine replied. Jasmine turned around and noticed a startled look on her roommate’s face. "What’s up with that look on your face? Whats wrong?" Jasmine said after a deep breath. "Jasmine I think you're pregnant" Sandra said. Jasmine’s face took a new, ugly shape. "WHAT!! Its a lie! You just said that to see how I'll react right?" She tried to smile...but failed. "Didn't you ever attend a Secondary school?” Sandra asked. “Weren't you ever taught the symptoms of pregnancy?” “What ...are you trying to say,” Jasmine stammered. “Hmm, don't tell me Richard did this to you. I saw you guys at the "FRESHERS PARTY". It’s just three weeks ago,” Sandra said with questioning look on her face. Jasmine tried to remember what happened that night she was with Richard her boyfriend. She remembered the few drinks she had with him and the short walk away from the venue of the party. Richard, a 300 level Law student, had made her drink a cup of chilled a funny tasting strawberry wine in a guest house outside the Campus.. "I can't remember, I think Richard doped me" tears welled up in her eyes. “Jasmine, what will I do now.” “Hmm. What else?” was all she got from her stunned friend. After the abortion... The news of Jasmine's death was the talk of the school for over two weeks. No one could believe the rumors that Jasmine, a beautiful, tall and intelligent student died of an abortion-gone-wrong, after spending just about a month in the university system. Police investigations confirmed that Jasmine died of abortion complications. Sandra her roommate also confessed that she had taken Jasmine to a quack doctor for an abortion. LADIES, this doesn't have to be your story. Are you a Fresher? Jambite? Be careful, most Freshers Party share gifts like premarital sex, death and occultic initiations. Its good to have fun but not at the expense of your academic career

5 REASONS WHY WOMEN ARE TURNING AWAY FROM COMMITMENT

Stories of men being commitment-phobic and running away from relationships are commonplace. Which is why, recently, we even delved into the reasons why men are always looking for doors and windows to escape relationships But, are you aware that something that was considered a typical male trait for ages has gone on to become a woman’s thing now? According to recent findings, women today are more hesitant to enter long-term relationships than men. Many women have a completely new approach to relationships now. Even in many recent movies, single and successful women have been shown, who are scared to change their relationship status easily. Read on, as we take a look at the varied reasons behind this fear of long-term commitment that is setting roots in women these days. 1. Enjoying a free world It can be observed that today’s woman is likely to be more resistant to ‘settling down’ mainly because being a single woman, living all by herself and enjoying every moment is no longer considered a social stigma. Author Elina Furman, says, “Women can play the field, travel the world, and not be judged negatively for their choices. Women today are also much more financially stable and find themselves postponing marriage due to work and other social commitments.” Elina’s book, ‘Kiss and Run’, talks about commitment phobia in women, and she is a self-confessed commitment-phobic. Clearly, marriage is no longer considered the only priority in a woman’s life. 2. Doubting relationship stability Given the increasing number of divorces and relationships breaking up at the drop of the hat, many women believe that the concept of ‘precaution is better than cure’ holds good even for commitments. They are either unsure of themselves or the person they are with. Being unsure leads many of them to run compatibility tests with a number of individuals, rather than accepting someone immediately. 3. Painful past experience An agonising breakup or a previous sad relationship can be one of the reasons to drive a person away from commitments, says CTRN (Change That’s Right Now), a website to help individuals overcome phobias. What a disturbed past can do to you is not unknown. This age-old reason of shying away from commitment holds true even for the strong-headed, independent woman of today. Traumatic experiences like witnessing a disturbing divorce of the parents, being a victim of child abuse, or going through a painful heartbreak at a very young age, can make a woman averse to getting into a long-term commitment. 4. It is about priorities With the passage of time, not only has a woman’s image undergone a major change, but her priorities have also shifted to a new tangent. These days, every woman does not dream of settling down with a husband to support her. Rather, this is not the sole dream of many women these days. The new-age woman has clearer and well-defined goals in her life. She wants to be successful in her career, lead a fun-filled life, and have a solid financial record. 5. Not compromising on “Mr. Right” According to psychologist, Dr. Janice D. Bennett, the growing search for the “perfect partner” is also a prime reason for people staying single for a long time. Unlike a few decades back, many women today are not ready to compromise on their “Mr. Right” image. Accepting a partner with all his flaws or adjusting and compromising on a few points here and there, seems unthinkable to many women. Turning down many suitors can become a habit for many women! Sociologist Shiv Vishvanathan sees nothing wrong in confusion about relationships. “It is not really phobia but an attempt to experiment with relationships. Society needs to give flexibility to this idea, which is progressive as long as it is not manipulative,” he says. Whether what they do is wrong or right, is probably not for anyone else to judge. But the fact remains, that women are getting more and more cautious, just like men, with their relationships these days. Given the current trends, most of them would rather remain single than commit for life to a “mismatch”. Source: Bollywoodshaadis.com

WORLD CUP '14: ARGENTINA DEFEATS BOSNIA

A moment of Lionel Messi magic was the difference as Argentina beat Bosnia-Herzegovina, 2-1, in Rio de Janeiro in the teams' World Cup opener on Sunday. Argentina took a 1-0 lead in the third minute, but it came on an own goal, and Messi and his attackmate Sergio Aguero looked less than fluent together in the first half. Messi atoned in the second half with only his second World Cup goal -- and first since 2006. The shot was so well-placed, or so lucky, that it caromed off the post and into the net. The goal turned out to be crucial, because Argentina's sometimes shaky goalkeeper, Sergio Romero, bungled a tame shot by Vedad Ibisevic that allowed Bosnia to close to 2-1 with six minutes left. Argentina is unlikely to be troubled by Nigeria and Iran in the days ahead, so its true ability at this Cup may not be shown until the knockout stage.

Elderson Echiejile- out of world cup14

Defender Elderson Echiejile will miss the World Cup because of an injury suffered in a warm-up match last week, Nigerian officials said on Sunday. The left back from French club Monaco tore a hamstring in the friendly draw with Greece in Philadelphia on Tuesday and will need a minimum of three weeks to recover. "We don't have that sort of time to play with," coach Stephen Keshi told reporters after Saturday's 2-1 loss to the United States in Nigeria's last warm-up match before departing for Brazil. Fellow defender Kenneth Omeruo and winger Ahmed Musa have been passed fit despite both sitting out the defeat by the Americans in Jacksonville. Nigeria are expected to announce midfielder Ejike Uzoenyi as Echiejile's replacement. Uzoenyi is from the South African club Mamelodi Sundowns but has been on loan at Enugu Rangers over the last six months. Nigeria are in Group F with Iran, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Argentina in the World Cup.

The world mourns a great Woman in Nigeria

Dora Akunyili Professor Dora Akunyili, a delegate at the ongoing National Conference and former Director-General, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control is dead. She died at 10:00am in a specialist cancer hospital in India on Saturday. Before her death, she had been battling with cancer for two years. Since the news of her death broke, many Nigerians have expressed their sadness and paid tributes to a woman many considered as brave, incorruptible and an amazon. Among those that have paid glowing tributes to her are President Goodluck Jonathan; a former governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, who officially announced her death; Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu; Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu; and Chris Ngige, Paul Ohii. Akunyili was forthright— Jonathan President Jonathan on Saturday said he received with shock and sadness the news of the sudden and untimely death of Akunyili, who was a former Minister of Information and Communications. In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, the President said he believed that Akunyili would live long in the memories of those who were privileged to know her as “a diligent professional, a public-spirited and forthright public officer, and as a person of great convictions.” He said he considered the deceased’s contributions to nation-building while she served as the DG of NAFDAC as well as as minister invaluable. The statement read, “The President states that it is sad that her death has come at a time she was making further efforts to help sustain and strengthen the unity and stability of the country in her capacity as a member of the ongoing National Conference. Without any doubt, she will be greatly missed. “President Jonathan commiserates with the Akunyili family, the government and people of Anambra State, members of the National Conference and all her loved ones.” She believed in Nigeria— Obi A former Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Peter Obi, described Akunyili as a firm believer in Nigeria. “In spite her illness, Prof. Akunyili was unwavering in her belief in a better Nigeria. That was why she defied her condition and was part of Anambra State Handover Committee and the National Conference. “The last time I visited her in India, even when she needed all the prayers herself, she was full of concern for the abducted Chibok girls, security and other challenges facing the country and told me that she remained prayerful for the release of those girls,” Obi said. In a statement issued by Obi on behalf of the family of Akunyili, announcing her death, he urged everyone to pray for the peaceful repose of her soul. He said, “We thank all those who remained fervent in prayers for her recovery and urge them to remain prayerful.” Dora, a patriotic Nigerian– Aliyu THE Governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu, described the death as a big blow to Nigeria in the area of intellectual competence and patriotic citizenship. He described Akunyili as a fountain of knowledge, professional expertise, who exuded servant leadership during her national service. The governor’s position was contained in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Israel Ebije, who described Akunyili as a good example of a true Nigerian who, despite her ill health, was ready to offer her fountain of knowledge at the ongoing national conference. She said, “Professor Dora Akunyili was a leading example of patriotic leader for change. She believed in the Nigerian project and continued to champion her belief even till death.” A remarkable woman— High Commissioner to India The Nigerian High Commissioner to India, Ambassador Ndubuisi Amaku, who spoke toNews Agency of Nigeria, said the former NAFDAC boss was dogged in her fight against fake and counterfeit drugs in Nigeria. “Dora Akunyili made a remarkable impact in the fight against fake and counterfeit drugs. I am pained like any other Nigerian that we lost a woman who was so dedicated to Nigeria. “She was an uncommon woman who did everything to uphold the dignity of Nigeria in the health sector. She was a remarkable woman and figure and we will miss her so much,’’ Amaku said. She was a patriotic— Orhii The Director-General of NAFDAC, Dr Paul Orhii, has also expressed shock over the death of Akunyili. “It was with shock but with total submission to the will of God that I received the sad news of the death of Prof. Dora Akunyili. “She was a highly patriotic woman who deeply loved Nigeria and dedicated her entire life to the service of this great nation. May God, the most merciful and most beneficent, grant her eternal rest in perfect peace,” he said. Orhii said Akunyili’s legacy would forever be remembered. Her death, a great loss— Ngige Senator Chris Ngige said he was shocked to hear about the death of Professor Dora Akunyili, describing her as a sister and friend. More stories to come..

Nigeria plays out goalless draw with Greece

Nigeria and Greece played out a goalless draw in a World Cup warm-up match at the PPL Park in Chester, Pennsylvania on Wednesday. This will be the second successive draw for both countries as Nigeria drew 2-2 with Scotland and Greece held Portugal to a goalless draw last Wednesday in warm-up friendlies. Nigeria head coach Stephen Keshi, having named his final World Cup squad a day earlier, restored 10 players who did not start the Scotland friendly into the fray from the beginning, as the Super Eagles continued the preparation for Brazil 2014. Greece started brighter and were quick off the blocks as early as the third minute when Genoa midfielder, Ioannis Fertfazidis effort went over as Greece signalled their intent from the start. Osaze Odemwingie's speculative effort in the 14th minute was as all Nigeria could muster in the opening exchanges as the Greeks looked to be on top. Click here to watch video Giorgios Karagounis let fly from all of 35 yards as Greece threatened again. Nigerian goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama was on top of his game to thwart the Greek advances. Victor Moses was proving to be the bright spark in a struggling Nigerian performance as his pace and trickery caused havoc in the Greek defence. Enyeama saved Nigeria's blushes with a great save after a swift move by the Greeks lead by the impressive Fertfazidis Ogenyi Onazi and Ahmed Musa tried long range efforts in bid to get Nigeria into the game but the Greek goalkeeper kept them at bay. Greece probed further as Fertfazidis rode three challenges from Nigerian defenders but couldn't make his effort count as Greece began to get a hold of the game. Super Eagles defender Elderson Echiejile was forced off the field with what looked like a hamstring injury and was replaced by Kunle Odunlami as Greece closed the half impressively. Nigeria made two changes at the start of the second half as Michael Uchebo came in for Ahmed Musa and Joseph Yobo came in for Godfrey Oboabona. The changes seemed to re-invigorate the Nigerians as they took the game to the Greeks with Moses causing all sorts of problems from the left channel and Uchebo using his physique to great effect. Moses had a shot saved by the Greek goalkeeper Kapino and he continued to prove a handful for the Greek defenders while substitute Kone also had a sight of the Nigerian goal in the 65th minute but shot wide. Nigeria created an opening in the 69th minute after a clever interchange of passes between Uchebo and Mikel but Babatunde could not keep his shot low as he blazed wide. Greece had a great opportunity to score in the 81st minute after a quick counter as Dimitris Salpingidis shot was parried by Enyeama but Giorgios Samaras could not score from the rebound. Onazi's shot in the 86th minute drew a smart save from Kapino and Efe Ambrose headed wide from a free kick after Moses was upended at the edge of the Greek 18 yard box. Nigeria nearly nicked it at the end of the game as John Obi Mikel waltzed his way past a couple of defenders and Moses could not connect his lay off properly. Though Nigeria attacked relentlessly as the game wore down, there was no way to break the Greek defence as the Super Eagles played their second successive draw in a week. Nigeria will take on the United States in Jacksonville on Saturday as they continue their preparations ahead of the June 16 Group F clash with Iran. Nigeria line up: Enyeama, Ambrose, Echiejile (Odunlami), Omeruo, Oboabona (Yobo), Onazi, Mikel, Odemwingie (Babatunde), Musa (Uchebo), Moses, Emenike (Nwofor). http://mobi.supersport.com/football/international- friendlies/video/377824http://mobi.supersport.com/football/international-friendlies/video/377824

WORLD CUP: I Already Know My Super Eagles’ Final 23 Men – Keshi

The Head Coach of the World Cup bound Super Eagles of Nigeria, Stephen Keshi, says he already had an idea of his final 23-man list to the global tournament in Brazil. Keshi made this revelation on Friday after the team had their first training session at the Philadelphia Eagles Stadium in Philadelphia, United States. The world football governing body, FIFA, had set Monday June 2 as the deadline for all participating teams to submit their final list and Keshi said that he was willing to take full advantage of the time left by only revealing his list on the said date. The Media Officer of the Senior National Team, Ben Alaiya, was said to have quoted Keshi saying, “I have an idea of those who will go with us to Brazil but we will still wait till the last minute before we announce the list.” This deliberate delay, according to the Big Boss, would enable him do double checks on the list and the possibility of finding those who may not measure up when hostilities start in Brazil. While expressing satisfaction at the fitness and tactical readiness of his team, Keshi noted that there was a need to be cautious. The Super Eagles played out a 2-2 draw with Scotland in an earlier played warm up match and would be squaring up against 2004 European Champions, Greece, as well as the USA. The FIFA World Cup, Brazil 2014, kicks off – amidst protests by citizens over monies spent – on June 12 and ends on July 13, 2014. Nigeria has been placed in Group F alongside South American football giant, Argentina; Iran and debutant, Bosnia & Herzegovina, who boast of the most potent attack of all teams at the tournament en route qualification.

Parents Share Story of Transgender 6-Year-Old Son

The California parents of a 6-year-old transgender child have gone public with their family’s personal story, posting a poignant seven-minute video to YouTubethat’s drawn more than 3.5 million views in just a few days. “Some told us it was ‘just a phase.’ The trouble was, phases end,” notes the video montage about Ryland Whittington, who was born a girl but recently transitioned to male, thanks to his parents’ full support. “This was only getting stronger.” Ryland, who was born deaf, received cochlear implantsand learned to hear and speak shortly after he was a year old. “We thought we had faced our toughest challenges, but Ryland had more to share with us,” the video explains. “As soon as Ryland could speak, she would scream, ‘I am a boy!’” The video was created and first shared on May 22 at the Annual Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast in San Diego, a major event that honors the slain LGBT activist and, this year, celebrated the release of the new Harvey Milk commemorative postage stamp. Ryland and his parents, San Diego real estate agents Jeff and Hillary Whittington, received this year’s Inspiration Award at the event, eliciting much applause and many tears from the 1,000-plus attendees. “I’m the happiest I’ve ever been in my whole life,” Ryland told the crowd. The family declined, through a spokesperson, to be interviewed by Yahoo Shine. But, Jeff told the San Diego LGBT Weeklyabout the video, “One of the most inspiring things that Harvey Milk had done, as far as our family is concerned, was to encourage people to come out — to let their voices be heard, break down the walls, break down the barriers and start allowing people to see them for their authentic selves and be true to themselves. And this is our coming out… This is us making our voices heard.”Though 6 may seem very young for a child to know if he or she is transgender, it is “a typical age, because it’s when people develop their gender identity in a real solidified way,” Michigan-based transgender-youth expert and psychologist Antonia Carettotells Yahoo Shine. She adds that often when parents of transgender children, even teens, come to see her, “They’ll say, ‘But he’s so young!’ And I’ll say, ‘At 13, did you know what gender you are?’” The montage, which includes photos of Ryland through the years, as well as video footage of him with his younger sister, takes viewers succinctly through the family’s story. It explains that, soon after learning to speak, “Ryland began to display increasing amounts of shame … Through tears she asked ‘Why did God make me like this?’ She may have only been 5 years old, but we needed to start truly listening.” The montage’s text adds that, after consulting with professionals, the conclusion was that Ryland is transgender. But then came the really scary news. “Through our research, we discovered a disturbing statistic: 41 percent of transgender people have attempted suicidedue to lack of societal acceptance. The national average is 4.6 percent,” the story explains. “We were not willing to take that risk.” The Whittingtons were advised to allow him to transition to male right away. They cut his hair and changed his room decor, as well as the pronouns they used. In addition, “We sent out a letter to friends and family explaining our change. We lost a few but the people who truly matter stuck by us…We signed up as parents with no strings attached.” Since posting the video to YouTube, the family has received an avalanche of public attention — something that can be both positive and negative, according to Joel Baum, director of education and training for Gender Spectrum. “An obvious pro is that you’re telling your kid’s story in a way that is proud and celebratory and free of shame,” he tells Yahoo Shine. “Also, every one of these stories opens up the door a little bit more.” Possible tradeoffs are that it opens up a family to criticism from folks who may not understand, Baum says, adding that, “we don’t know how this kid will feel about it being out there in the future.” However, “It demystifies who these kids and families are,” says Baum. And to those who fault the parents’ decision to allow transition, he adds a warning: “Until you live with or know a kid like this, be careful with the judgment, because most of these families have looked at about every other possibility… This is not an easy road a family is walking down."
