Bush Hunter identified as Jerome Adoko has since been arrested by the police for shooting three people including his wife and mother-in-law along with their local pastor after an altercation over a plot of land turned nasty in Benue State.

Mr Adoko from Iwewe-Ichama community in Okpokwu Local Government Area of the state has been arrested by the police for  shooting his wife, Regina, his mother-in-law, Esther Edoga and the clergyman Eze Udoh. Apparently, the pastor died from the injuries he sustained from the gunshot wounds, while the two other victims are still undergoing treatment in hospital.

It is believed that the suspect and his wife had been at loggerheads over the ownership of a parcel of land in the community, while efforts by their relatives to settle the dispute had hit a brick wall. Mr Adoko was said to have claimed that he owned the land while the wife insisted that they jointly raised funds to buy it.

Apparently, both parties had maintained an uneasy silence until last Thursday when Jerome accused his wife of cutting up and cooking an animal he hunted in the bush without his permission. One relative said Jerome cashed in on the Thursday’s altercation to attack his wife over the land, adding that the pastor wanted to make peace when he was hit by stray bullets.

He added: “Jerome and his wife have an issue over a parcel of land and families of both parties have been trying to sort it out. But he insisted that the land belonged to him and that day, he said his wife cut up and cooked an animal without seeking his consent.

“He confronted the wife, which led to exchange of words between them. The mother-in-law, who was on a visit to their house, tried to calm them down but to no avail, so he went into his room and brought out a gun he used for hunting.”

According to the relative the mother-in-law raised the alarm and the pastor and other neighbors came out to stop him. He added that the hunter wanted to shoot his wife but the pastor and the mother-in-law were also hit.

A new study research conducted in Ibadan, Oyo State of Nigeria, has revealed that the use of clean-burning ethanol stoves, as against kerosene stoves, can reduce hypertension and cardiovascular risk in pregnant women.

Facts gathered, According to the lead study author and professor of medicine and family director of international programmes at the University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Medicine, Christopher Olopade,  pregnant women who were used to using kerosene stove had lesser chances of developing high blood pressure when they switched to ethanol stoves.

Gathered by Prince Okafor that the President-elect of the United States Mr. Donald Trump will attend a roadshow being arranged by Nigeria to attract investment to the oil and gas sector.

Mr. Ibe Kachikwu, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources said in a speech on Tuesday in Abuja when he unveiled the goals of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources for 2017. “We are going to be seeking to attract investments and complete all the memorandum of understandings we have in China and India.

“We are looking to do a roadshow to the UK, we are looking to do a road show to the US with President Donald Trump coming in,’’ he said. 

The Minister said Nigeria would exploit the relationship built by President Muhammadu Buhari in taking a road show to the UK and US. Kachikwu equally pledged the readiness of the Federal Government to pass the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) and allocate oil blocks in 2017. “We are going to accelerate Federal Government’s revenues, look into areas where we could have made more money, so as to support the 2017 budget financing. “We are looking to draw on the relationship that the president has built over time. We are going to be conducting oil blocks allocations and marginal flow awards to try and raise money for the government,” The Minister, Kachikwu said.

He assured that Nigeria’s refineries would be revamped to produce at 60 per cent capacity. “We need to start the revamping of the refineries. The president has given us marching orders on that. We still remain committed on our goal of 2018 to reduce importation by 60 per cent and 2019, stop the importation of petroleum products substantially. “Now we are going to continue to focus on downstream issues. Although we have liberalised, there are still some challenges. We are going to see how we work within the liberalisation infrastructure such that we are able to take away the low-hanging difficulties. In a bid to substantially ensure a smooth transformation in the oil industry in 2017, the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, has said that the oil and gas sector will be run with a rocket pace. The minister in his twitter handle, entitled the Nigeria Petroleum Sector 2017 Outlook, said that in 2017, activities will be sped up to achieve set goals. “We are going to run at a rocket pace. 

We have so much to do. First we are going to firm up our policies, be able to gazette all our oil and gas policies and then pass the Petroleum Industrial Bill, PIB.” He also said that the difficulties of 2016 served as a pointer to where the country is headed, adding, “Do not despair, do not lose hope, do not be frightened, do not wonder, rather be energized. “We are going to accelerate Federal Government revenues, look into areas where we could have made more money, (as the Federal Government has been losing low hanging fruits), so as to support the 2017 financing. “We are going to be singing to attract investments and complete all the memorandum of Understandings MoUs, both the one in China, and that of India”. 

He also pointed out that there will be a road show in the United Kingdom, as well as the United States, with President Donald Trump coming in. On gas revolution, the minister said that, “Gas revolution will be key. First, we are going to track gas flare and commercialise it so that no more flare happen in this country. We have set a 2020 date for ourselves even though the international fora at the United Nation had set a 2030 date. We are very aggressive about this, we want to make money from flare,” he said. Mr. Kachikwu also promised that the government will look at the gas infrastructure that are suffering, complete the investment and get gas in every part of the country because it is key to power delivery. The minister said the nation has four times volume of gas than oil, adding that even though oil has contributed immensely to the nation’s growth, gas is the future. 

He explained that gas will provide power, clean energy, and day-to-day burning of fuel at homes. “For so long we have pretended to be an oil producing nation and yes we were; but Nigeria really is a gas nation with a lot of substantial gift of oil.” Speaking on the state of refineries, Kachikwu said, “We need to start the revamping of the refineries. It was gathered that The state governor of Ekiti in person of Mr Ayodele Fayose has marked out and explained the sack of the Executive Secretary of the Financial Regulatory Council (FRC) of Nigeria, in person of Mr. Jim Obazee, in connection with the implementation of the ongoing controversial Corporate Governance Code 2016 as an afterthought and cover-up to stem the tide of negative public reactions to the implementation of the controversial law that stripped the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye and others of their positions. In a release issued in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday and signed by the governor’s Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka. 

In his speech; “When they realised the implication of their action on President Mohammadu Buhari’s 2019 ambition, especially the personality like Pastor Adeboye that’s involved, they quickly sacked an innocent man who must have acted on instruction". Fayose said. 

“Obviously, their attention is more on 2019, not on justice and any love for the sustenance of Christianity in Nigeria. Mind you, they have only suspended the implementation of the regulation, they did not abrogate it. It is obvious that they have an agenda. And if you look at the president’s pattern of life, he is a sectional leader, whose appointments reflect sectionalism and nepotism.” He added.

He said it was funny that a president that is over 70 years will be the one to implement a regulation limiting the age of General Overseer (GO) of Churches to 70 years, asking; “If men of God like Pastor Adeboye, Pastor W. F. Kumuyi, Bishop David Oyedepo, Bishop Mike Okonjoz and others cannot be GO of their church beyond 70 years of age, how do we now justify a man like President Buhari who is over 74 and still willing to be president beyond 2019 that he will be 77?” 

Governor Fayose, who described those defending President Mohammadu Buhari by claiming that the law was made when Dr Goodluck Jonathan was president as hypocrites, asked; “Even if the law was made before President Buhari assumed office, who is to blame for its implementation? Could President Buhari have implemented a law he does not believe in and could the sacked FRC boss that they have now used as the fall-guy have implemented the law without the consent of the President?” 

He questioned the speed at which the President reacted by sacking the FRC boss, asking; “Why was there no such swiftness in his action on Southern Kaduna killings where a race was almost wiped out, with people killed like goats? Why didn’t the President react swiftly to the Senate indictment of the EFCC Acting Chairman, Ibrahim Magu? “Obviously, it was an afterthought, which was aimed at dousing the negative outcry that greeted the action by using the sacked FRC boss as the fall-guy “This has further made it very clear and evident that Buhari is not a leader, he is ruler. He is a religious apologist that believes that he must silence anybody that does not believe in his line of thought either politically or religious wise. “Sadly, all those things that we have forgotten and never thought will happen again in this country are now happening. The country is now badly divided more than ever before. 

“Nigerians have been able to read through President Buhari in this short time to realise that all he is doing now is to destroy this country like he did in 1984, but God will not allow him". The Governor concluded.

NSCDC, NABTEB, And Other Ministries Evicted From Fayose House By Ado Ekiti- Ekiti State Government

Ado Ekiti- Ekiti State government under the administration of Gov. Ayo Fayose on Wednesday evicted the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC) Ekiti State command and other Federal ministries and agencies from their various offices. The ministries were evicted from Fayose Housing Estate, located along Afao Ekiti Road in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.

It was gathered that the estate, which housed federal establishments such as NSCDC, Prisons Service, NAFDAC, NOA, NABTEB and others, was built by Fayose during his first term in office as a governor of the state and was named after him. The Public Relations Officer of NSCDC, Ekiti state command in person of Tolu Afolabi confirmed the development to newsmen in Ado Ekiti. According to him, the state government had earlier given a year grace to all the ministries and agencies to look elsewhere for accommodation or buy the property as the state could no longer give out its property free of charge in view of the biting economic situation in the country.
“The period of grace ended on the 31st of December, 2016 after which a letter of eviction was served on the occupants of the estate" The letter said failure to quit the property would result being dragged to a rent tribunal.
With this development, NSCDC officers in the state have been trying to cope with the situation and we are urging well meaning Nigerians to assist the Corps “It should also be noted, however, that not only Civil Defence was evicted by the State Housing Corporation from the property as being peddled in some quarters but all the federal agencies in the estate”, he said.

Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), on Friday has ordered every of its fighters to prepare to fight “War” against the “Enemy”, saying that The Nigerian authorities were not ready for any dialogue.

Avengers had declared a ceasefire last year after major attacks on oil facilities, crippling the entire OPEC member’s oil output.

The previous attacks has reduced Nigeria’s oil production output drastically, which stood at 2.1 million barrels per day (bpd) for some months in 2016.

Although the Nigerian government has been holding talks for more than six months with The Niger Delta leaders, the former militants have complained that no progress has been made on the issue.

Some days after we heard that a fleeing Boko Haram member got arrested in ikorodu, Lagos state... Another fleeing member was reportedly arrested in Abuja after the Nigerian troops has cleared and took over their stronghold which is said to be Sambisa forest.
A fleeing members of the Boko Haram sect has since been arrested by officials of a security agency recently established by the Abuja Municipal Area Council, popularly known as AMAC Marshal in the Federal Capital Territory.

According to a statement issued by AMAC Marshal Spokesman, Kingsley Madaki, Usman who is the alleged to be be a sect member was apprehended at exactly 4:30 pm at Utako market shortly after he arrived the premises.

Madaki disclosed that the suspect was apprehended “with a Qur’an and a chaplet on his neck while trying to lobby people in the market.”

The statement said he “confessed that there are many of his colleagues in the city.”

The agency has therefore, appealed to residents of Abuja Municipal Area Concil and the FCT in whole to be vigilant and to report any suspicious movement to AMAC Marshal personnel and other security agencies.

Lake Rice To Sell N13,000 Per Bag

Lagos State Government under the Akinwumi Ambode Administration has made it known to the public that it was ready to roll out the Lake Rice to Lagosians at N13,000 per 50 kg towards the Yuletide celebrations.

"The state government has put in place a committee that will ensure that Lagosians have the best Christmas celebration, that is why we are offering the wholesome and well packaged rice."

Mr Sanni Okanlawan, Special Adviser on Food Security to Governor Akinwumi Ambode, made the disclosure during the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) National Agriculture Stakeholders Summit.

He said that sales of the rice would be made at all the 57 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state to ensure proper distribution.

“Lake Rice is the acronym of both Lagos and Kebbi States joint product which will be out to the public on Dec. 15 at the rate of N13,000 per 50kg bag as it is already subsidised by the government."

It was reported that an auxiliary nurse, identified as Oyekanmi, has been since
arrested by the police for her role in the death of a baby she took delivery of in the Odogunyan, Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

It was learnt that the victim’s mother, Adeola, had been taken to Oyekanmi’s residence last Saturday when she went into labour.

Oyekanmi, while attempting to force the delivery, was said to have pulled off the baby’s hand.

She was said to have advised that the child be taken to the Ikorodu General Hospital, where the dead child was finally delivered.

Doctors at the hospital were reported to have queried the baby’s parents on what truly transpired, and they opened up. The hospital management then alerted the police to the incident.

A source told Punch that Oyekanmi was picked up by the police.

The source said, “What happened was that the auxiliary nurse tried to deliver the woman of the baby, during which there was a complication. But she continued and in the end, the hand of the baby was pulled off while she tried to force the child out from the mother’s womb.

“Afterwards, they quickly packed the woman together and brought her to the general hospital. It had become a critical case by then. The remains of the dead child were brought out, while the matter was reported to the police.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident, and said:

“The doctor at the hospital discovered that something was amiss after taking a close look at the dead child and seeing that one hand had been pulled off. All the parties were invited to make statements. 

It is a case of infanticide; investigations are ongoing.”

Ryland and his parents, San Diego real estate agents Jeff and Hillary Whittington, received this year’s Inspiration Award at the event, eliciting a lot applause and many tears from the 1,000-plus attendees. “I’m the happiest I’ve ever been in my whole life,” Ryland told the crowd. The family declined, through a spokesperson, to be interviewed by Yahoo Shine. But, Jeff told the San Diego LGBT weekly about the video,

“One of the most inspiring things that Harvey Milk had done, as far as our family is concerned, was to encourage people to come out — to let their voices be heard, break down the walls, break down the barriers and start allowing people to see them for their authentic selves and be true to themselves. And this is our coming out… This is us making our voices heard.”Though 6 may seem very young for a child to know if he or she is transgender, it is “a typical age, because it’s when people develop their gender identity in a real solidified way,” Michigan-based transgender-youth expert and psychologist Antonia Carettotells Yahoo Shine. She adds that often when parents of transgender children, even teens, come to see her, “They’ll say, ‘But he’s so infantile!’ And I’ll say, ‘At 13, did you know what gender you are?’” The montage, which includes photos of Ryland through the years, as well as video footage of him with his younger sister, takes viewers succinctly through the family’s story. It explains that, soon after learning to speak, “Ryland began to display increasing amounts of shame … Through tears she asked ‘Why did God make me like this?’ She may have only been 5 years old, but we needed to start truly listening.” The montage’s text adds that, after consulting with professionals, the conclusion was that Ryland is transgender.

But then came the really scary news. “Through our research, we discovered a disturbing statistic: 41 percent of transgender people have attempted suicide due to lack of societal acceptance. The national average is 4.6 percent,” the story explains. “We were not willing to take that risk.” The Whittingtons were advised to allow him to transition to male right away. They cut his hair and changed his room decor, as well as the pronouns they used. In addition, “We sent out a letter to friends and family explaining our change. We lost a few but the people who truly matter stuck by us…We signed up as parents with no strings attached.” Since posting the video to YouTube, the family has received an avalanche of public attention — something that can be both positive and negative, according to Joel Baum, director of education and training for Gender Spectrum. “An obvious pro is that you’re telling your kid’s story in a way that is proud and celebratory and free of shame,” he tells Yahoo Shine. “Also, every one of these stories opens up the door a little bit more.” Possible tradeoffs are that it opens up a family to criticism from folks who may not understand, Baum says, adding that, “we don’t know how this kid will feel about it being out there in the future.” However, “It demystifies who these kids and families are,” says Baum. And to those who fault the parents’ decision to allow transition, he adds a warning: “Until you live with or know a kid like this, be careful with the judgment, because most of these families have looked at about every other possibility… This is not an easy road a family is walking down."
